Weekend repairs to rock slide

Saturday 7th February 2009, 10:55AM GMT.

A main Shropshire road will be closed all weekend after 80 tonnes of rock fell on the highway.

Harley Bank, on the A458 at Much Wenlock, closed on Thursday night.

Engineers assessed the damage yesterday and said it would not be reopened until Sunday.

Jennifer Fullard, communications officer for transport and highways at Shropshire County Council, said: “Specialist contractors are now on site and officers were working throughout yesterday and today to enable the road to be reopened.

“It is hoped that the road will be reopened on Sunday.”

She confirmed that the rock fall had been due to a part of the old quarry collapsing and that it had nothing to do with works carried out last summer.
