Three on £425,000 bank raid charge
Saturday 7th February 2009, 11:05AM GMT.
Three men accused of stealing £425,000 in a raid on a Telford bank today appeared in court.
The men – Colin Farrell 26, Brian Moran 24, and Paul Fielding 25 – all from Salford, Manchester, are accused of conspiring to rob Lloyds TSB on Dawley High Street in September last year.
Mr Steve Walmsley, prosecuting, told the court a gang of five masked men raided the High Street branch on September 5, armed with sledgehammers, crowbars and drain covers.
Two women named in court as Heather Huxley and Helen Hancocks, both workers at the bank, were filling up the cash machine at the time of the robbery.
Magistrates heard the gang, all wearing identical clothing and balaclavas, fled with boxes and bags of cash containing about £425,000.
The magistrates were told the gang fled in a Volkswagen Golf which was found abandoned along with a Volk- swagen Caddy.
The men spoke only to confirm their names, ages and addresses. Bail applications for the defendants were rejected by magistrates, who remanded the three in custody to appear at Shrewsbury Crown Court on February 16.
