Council against air unit proposal

Saturday 7th February 2009, 10:35AM GMT.

Councillors are against proposals by a housing developer to fit air conditioning units at business premises in Shifnal.

Wulfrun Homes has applied for planning permission to put in the units at 4 Victoria Road.

The four-storey development includes shops and offices.

But members of Shifnal Town Council’s planning committee voted against the plans, which were submitted to Bridgnorth District Council on Thursday.

Peter Hurlstone, council clerk, said councillors were worried about potential noise for residents and the visual impact of the units.

Town councillors also backed a bid by the Royal George pub in High Street to keep its outside drinking and smoking area.

Also gaining their approval was work to a cherry tree at The Old Vicarage, Church Street; to remove a leylandii at 43 Victoria Road; and to do work on a hornbeam tree at Newlands, Haughton Lane.
