Rallying call to save Royal British Legion clubs

We mustn’t lose, says Smith

Boss Rob Smith is preparing to take his promotion-chasing AFC Telford United side to league leaders Tamworth tomorrow, insisting: “It’s a game we can’t afford to lose.”
Smith is keeping everything crossed that the Blue Square North game goes ahead despite the heavy snow of recent days and is eager to see his side eat into the Lambs’ six-point advantage.
His preparations have certainly been hampered by the weather though, with training cancelled last night because the TCAT Dome was shut.
“I see it as a ‘must not lose’ game,” he revealed. “I don’t see it as must-win, though that would be ideal.”
“The main thing is come away making sure we’re no worse off than before we started.
“There’s still plenty of games to go, but nine points would be a big lead for them.
“They’re a good side and I was surprised they struggled last year. Their manager Gary Mills is top class and always puts out a good team so it’s no surprise to see them doing well now.”
Smith has midfielders Danny Edwards and Phil Trainer back in the fold, the duo having been cup-tied for the FA Trophy win at Kettering last weekend.
Striker Andy Brown will be the subject of a pre-match fitness test and is likely to have to settle for a place on the bench at best.
Left-back James Meredith is suspended after his red card at Fleetwood a fortnight ago, while Martyn Naylor has suffered a broken cheekbone and is out for up to six weeks.
Striker Terry Fearns is still missing due to his groin injury whil Simon Forsdick could be on the bench.
