Chance to speak on revamp scheme

The centre of Dawley could soon boast a new-look High Street, shops, homes and public open space as part of a multi-million pound regeneration project.
And local people will be able to take advantage of the latest computer technology to see how the transformation will look. Next week sees the start of a new round of public consultation by Telford & Wrekin Council.
A series of events will offer people the opportunity to see a vision of Dawley and Malinslee for the future.
For the first time, people will be able to see a scale model and a computer generated “fly-through” which shows how the 90-acre site covering the centre of Dawley, one of Telford’s oldest market towns, and the Malinslee area could look.
The scheme is a key part of the council’s Borough Towns Initiative (BTI) to regenerate and improve towns and local centres.
Changes to be made include opening the High Street up to vehicles (one way), replacing street furniture, providing short-stay car parking on the High Street and grants for improvements to shop fronts and buildings.
Also proposed are a care home, better pedestrian links to Dawley, Malinslee and Telford Town Park, together with improvements and amendments to create a mixed use environment – combining housing, retail, commercial and high quality public open space.
Councillor Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration, said: “The regeneration will breathe new life into this historic town.
“The first public event will be held at Dawley House, 22 Burton Street, Dawley, on Monday from 5pm to 8pm and I would urge people to attend if at all possible and have their say.”
Councillor Vic Tonks said: “If people need any help getting to Monday’s event or any of the others planned or just want more details then they should contact the project team on (01952) 384015.”
The detailed planning application will be submitted in April.

Funny how this comes just on the back of people moaning about Dawley dying due to the loss of its bank.
Some people just like to moan about anything.
Council should better spend money somewhere else, Dawley doesnt deserve it.

Yeah of course like all you noobs know about Dawley – You will not find a friendlier town in the whole of Britain. I come from Shrewsbury but i know Dawley is a much better place to live.

I agree with Mikey, i have lived there all my life and it has been neglected for over 30 years, we refuse to be ignored any more!
Its only in the last two years a glimmer of hope has started to appear, i look forward to going to the consultation and seeing what the proposals are to breathe some new life into a wonderful town.
