Thursday 5th February 2009, 12:15PM GMT.

Welshpool High School today. Not pictured: snow.Education bosses in Powys have come under fire after deciding to close the county’s schools – despite no snow falling.

Powys County Council decided yesterday all schools would shut today, due to the a forecast of heavy snow.

But, hardly any snow fell and the council has now come under fire for taking the decision so early.

Typical! What is the matter with them? How many times do we get a forecast saying there will be heavy snow and how many times does it actually arrive? Common sense surely would mean waiting to see what happens, if people can’t travel then make the decision!

Sack them and relieve them of their very nice thank-you pensions on teh way out. The private sector has had enough.

Trying to save money no boubt, wonder if they were still running the heating and lighting?

Typical of Powys, though, they cant even keep the lights on, (probably fed up of people commenting on the lights being on and nobody home)

Nanny state gone mad!! Where’s the British backbone gone? When I was a lad we went to school whatever the weather. They will soon be saying school’s will close in heavy rain just in case the pupils get too wet and the roads are awash with water!! Get a grip LEA.

Only Powys county council would close our schools switch of our street lights and make it very dangerous in the nasty weather with driving conditions hazardous for every one. Children are safer in school
