Funds set aside for town projects
Wednesday 4th February 2009, 1:30PM GMT.
About £130,000 will be spent on two Bridgnorth community schemes including the long-awaited raked seating at the town’s leisure centre.
Bridgnorth District Council has now made more than £128,500 available for the projects.
Between £70,000 and £90,000 will be spent on raked seating at Bridgnorth Leisure Centre with the rest being spent on improvements to solar panels at the Severn Centre, Highley.
The raked seating in Bridgnorth will enable a wider and more diverse programme of art and audience activities to be carried out at the centre.
Funds have also been allocated to make improvements to the solar panels at the Severn Centre.
This work will allow increased use of the existing solar panels to heat the main hot water system at the centre, improving the heating to the teaching halls and showers.
It is claimed this will result in a significant saving in fuel costs and provide an energy-efficient use of resources.
A council spokesman said: “The extra funding shows the council’s commitment to the efficient and sustainable use of buildings.”
Councillor Milner Whiteman, chairman of the resources and finance committee, said: “I am delighted that this money has been allocated in such a way which will benefit many of the people within this area.”
