Wolves’ new boy seeks Premier spot

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 1:25PM GMT.

WolvesChristophe Berra has revealed the chance to potentially ply his trade in the Barclays Premier League was too good to turn down after completing his move to Wolves from Hearts.

The former Jambos captain, 24, has finalised his switch to the Coca-Cola Championship leaders – signing a four-and-a-half year contract after the two clubs agreed an undisclosed fee.

Berra had been on Mick McCarthy’s radar for some time.

The player watched Saturday’s 3-1 victory over Watford from the directors’ box at Molineux and is available for tonight’s home game with Norwich, weather permitting.

And the Scotland defender is thrilled by the challenge that lies ahead as Wolves look to secure a place in the Premier League.

“I’m really excited to be coming to Wolves,” he said.

“It’s an ambitious club with a lot of good young players who want to get into the Premier League and I’m no different.

“I know my first challenge is just to get into the team because they’re top of the league and have been doing well, but it’s one I’m ready for and am looking forward to.

“I’m leaving behind some good friends and some good people at Hearts but, when you want to play at the highest level, sometimes you have to move on.

“I’ll hopefully get back up there at some stage to say my goodbyes. Now it’s time to look forward and my new challenge.”

McCarthy believes the highly-rated centre-back will have no problems fitting into the ranks at Molineux.
