Ludlow’s snowed off

Tuesday 3rd February 2009, 1:00PM GMT.

Bob DaviesLudlow Racecourse today suffered its third abandonment in five National Hunt meetings – ending hopes of jockey Tony McCoy making history in Shropshire.

An 8an inspection today left clerk of the course Bob Davies with no option but to postpone tomorrow’s  card.

“We didn’t have a cat in hell’s chance,” admitted Davies this morning. “We had five-and-a-half inches of snow on the course and it is drifting in places.”

McCoy was due to head to Ludlow in his quest to notch up 3,000 winners over jumps. He is currently stranded on 2,998.

  • Bangor-on-Dee are playing a “waiting game” as they assess prospects for Friday’s jumps card. “At this stage, we have about an inch of snow on the course, but it is not frozen,” said clerk Ed Gretton.
