Town’s worst week of the season
Monday 2nd February 2009, 9:35AM GMT.
The last week has got to go down as one of Town’s worst this season after dropping points against one of the league strugglers and one of our main promotion rivals, writes blogger James Pugh.
As if the lacklustre performance against Barnet wasn’t bad enough as we drew 0-0, the 3-1 defeat at home to Brentford has put a big dent in our automatic promotion push.
It was the same old story on the road against Barnet with negative tactics, including playing one up front and a lack of willingness to win. For some bizarre reason Simpson thinks a point away from home will do.
And to be fair to Brentford on Saturday, they are probably the best side we have come up against this season and deserved their win.
The downside to this is that maybe we aren’t as good as we thought we were. The only positive to take from the match was the return of Grant Holt, who at the moment is proving us to be a one man team, barring the defence.
For the last couple of months Town have gone a bit stale and I have to say if we could fast forward until the end of the season, we will be lucky even to be in the play-offs.
The goals have dried up, the performances at home haven’t been great and we are lucky not to be further points behind our promotion rivals.
At the moment I don’t see where a good run of consecutive wins is going to come from, unless we can have a lot of fortune and out players spark into life.
Tuesday sees us play at home against Accrington Stanley – needless to say the game is a must win.
The result on Saturday proved one thing at least – we need more players before the transfer deadline passes by the end of today.
And it seems at the moment like we haven’t quite got the strength in depth in our squad that many of the fans thought that we had when the season got under way. I think if Monday passes without any new additions, a lot of fans will be very unhappy.
According to Sky Sports News’s Transfer Centre, Aston Villa are apparently chasing Chris Humphreys. I find this very hard to believe because although he has got potential he can’t even secure a regular spot in our starting XI and is too inconsistent to be good enough for a higher league, let alone ours.

I think you are wrong to blame Paul Simpson. It is just due to a collective loss of form.
Bringing in more players is not the answer.
We already have good enough players when they are on form.

I’m still fuming at the manager’s assessment that a 0-0 draw against Barnet – a team with one home League win this season – was a good performance.
Shades of Peters trying to big up an apology of a defeat at Chester, anybody?
Beginning to lose the faith very quickly

Keep the faith – when has watching Salop ever been easy ? the squad is ok we haven’t got any more cash so have to go with what we have. A few lads are off form but they are league 2 players we need them to get back on it soon. Davies, Cansdell-Sheriff spring to mind. We can do it !

We are back to the usual where everyone is shouting out at the players telling them they are rubbish and idiots etc. Keep behind the team and support through thick and thin! If you tell someone they are rubbish often enough they believe it themselves and lose confidence! If you call youself a suppoter – SUPPORT!!!
