New success for Loton Park event
Monday 2nd February 2009, 9:00AM GMT.
Loton Park Speed Hillclimb recently received a national award for the second year running.
The Norrie Galbraith Memorial Trophy is awarded by the sport’s national body, the Hillclimb & Sprint Association, to the club which hosted the ‘Best Organised Round’ of the British Hill Climb Championship.
The event which gained the award was the June 2008 meeting held at Loton Park, near Shrewsbury, and this is the second year in succession that hosts Hagley & District Light Car Club have taken the trophy.
Club president Tony Millard of Ludlow, himself a keen competitor in his OMS racing car, commented: “I am delighted that the hard work and dedication required to stage this event has been rewarded yet again by the national organisers.”
“It is true recognition indeed for all the voluntary efforts put in by our club members and officialsÉ we are hoping to make 2009 our hat-trick,” he added.
Loton Park hosts the first round of this year’s British Hill Climb Championship, which covers 34 events throughout England, Scotland, Ireland and the Channel Islands, at Easter, on Sunday and Monday, April 12 and 13.
This prestigious national event attracts an entry of more than 140 competitors from throughout the UK, competing in a wide variety of cars, ranging from modified saloons and Caterham sportscars to V8 powered single-seater racing cars.
Local man Scott Moran of Ludlow is the reigning British Champion and will begin the defence of his title at this event.
