Ludlow snow doubts add to McCoy’s frustration
Monday 2nd February 2009, 1:30PM GMT.
Shropshire racing enthusiasts and champion National Hunt jockey Tony McCoy are both set for a week of frustration as the snow and cold snap bites.
McCoy is likely to have to bide his time in the quest to reach 3,000 winners over the jumps – he requires two more – as snow threatens to wipe out much of the week’s racing programme.
Ludlow’s meeting on Wednesday is one potential venue where McCoy could create history, but the overnight snow and a bleak forecast has already placed major doubts over that meeting.
“We have had getting on for two inches of snow at the moment and there is more forecast,” clerk of the course Bob Davies confirmed this morning.
“The temperature isn’t going to rise much so it is almost certain there will be an inspection at 8am in the morning – but we will see how today goes.”
Both of today’s National Hunt meetings at Southwell – where McCoy was due to have three rides – and Lingfield were abandoned due to conditions.
But the all-weather card at Wolverhampton survived three inspections this morning to get the nod.
The prospects don’t look good for tomorrow with both Sedgefield and Market Rasen calling inspections.
- North Shropshire border trainer Brian Baugh was among the winners at Southwell yesterday when 6-1 shot Hilbre Court took the 1m handicap.
