Tigers miss out on Canadian forward
Saturday 31st January 2009, 9:38AM GMT.
GM Telford Tigers bosses have denied reports they have signed Canadian forward Ryan Caicco from IC Epinal in France. The club has been talking to several foreign-trained players since the departure of Jason Cassells two weeks ago and thought they had agreed a deal with Caicco earlier this week.
However, the 26-year-old has now decided to stay with his current ice hockey club.
Tigers’ player-coach Claude Dumas said: “Caicco was first offered to us about a month ago, around the time we released Andre Niec.
“He looked interesting, but at that time we were looking for a defenceman. However, when Cassells decided to go, we reconsidered him.
“Caicco said he still wanted to come to Telford, so we started proceedings to sign him.
“Everything was fine, we agreed a contract, but then his team started asking for some serious money to release him. What they were asking for was not realistic for us – and Ryan then decided it was best to stay in France.”
But Tigers are still working on signings before tonight’s deadline. See page 54
