Council calls for return of laptops

Saturday 31st January 2009, 10:58AM GMT.

Shrewsbury councillors are facing a laptop and equipment amnesty as they are are told to hand back their privileged items ahead of the arrival of the new unitary council.Members of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council have been told in an e-mail that they must give back their laptops and bags following the final full council meeting on March 26.

The authority is allowing councillors to buy their laptops but will have their systems stripped of the main software programmes.

As a gesture of goodwill routers and printers can be kept free of charge.

The e-mail, sent on behalf of council manager Geraint Morgan, says: “It would seem appropriate that all members hand in their laptops in their bags following final full council on March 26, 2009 and those who cannot attend on this day ensure the laptops are returned prior to this.”

It advises any personal material should be copied.
