Visitors saying ‘I Do’ to wedding show

Friday 30th January 2009, 9:30AM GMT.

Telford Wedding fairVisitors to Telford’s Wedding Exhibition are planning their big day almost two years in advance. Hundreds of people have visited the exhibition since it opened in the Telford Shopping Centre on Monday.

And organisers are expecting an even bigger flood of people tomorrow and over the weekend.

The Shropshire Star, which stepped in to save the show when health and safety regulations put it in jeopardy, has enlisted the help of Maureen Perks, organiser of the event for the past decade.

“There are more than 40 exhibitors – everything you could want for a wedding under one roof,” she said.

One of the brides-to-be looking round was Jenny Dally, 23, from Wellington and her mother, Morag.

Jenny said she and fiance Anthony O’Connor plan to marry at the end of 2010.

“We are thinking of a winter wedding and have been looking for a venue before we set a date,” she said.

Annabel Burgess-Durston, from Hawkstone Park Hotel, said, more and more couples were choosing winter weddings.

“We cannot depend on the sunshine for summer weddings so they are going for the winter wedding in the hope that the day will be bright and sunny, despite the cold,” she said.

Chris Ryder, a caricature artist from Donnington, was just one of many of the exhibitors to have received bookings for this week.

She proves popular at weddings, producing quick draw caricatures not only for the bride and groom, but also guests at weddings.

“It is a unique memento of the wedding day,” she said.
