Jillian’s search for adopted son

Thursday 29th January 2009, 9:30AM GMT.

Jillian Williams (nee Taft)In 1964 Jillian Taft gave birth to a baby boy at a small cottage hospital in Shropshire.

Jillian was 22 years old and had spent the final part of her pregnancy at a home for unmarried mothers in Shrewsbury.

The little boy was given up for adoption but now, 45 years on, she is hoping to track him down.

Jillian, now 66, lives in Canada with her husband Evan Williams and is hoping the people of the county can help her in her search.

Mr Williams said: “In 1964 Jill gave up for adoption a baby boy who was born in a hospital in Shrewsbury and she had been staying at a home for unmarried mothers in the same town.

The old hospital at Cross Houses“She lived in Sedgley, near Dudley, at the time.

“She would like to try to make contact with her son, but cannot remember the name of the home or the hospital properly.

“She thinks the hospital was called Cross House and that the home was also called something house and was probably run by the Church of England.”

The little boy was born on May 3, 1964. Mr Williams said he was adopted to a family who might have been from the Midlands or from “up north”.

“Jill lived in Sedgley at the time and her family may have been helped to find the home in Shrewsbury by the vicar from the Sedgley parish church,” Mr Williams added.

“Jill and I were married at that same church on March 4, 1967, 20 months after we first met.”

Anyone with any information about Mrs Williams’ son is asked to e-mail evanwilliams@shaw.ca
