Simpson eyes more signings
Wednesday 28th January 2009, 4:00PM GMT.
Paul Simpson has revealed he is keen to bolster his Shrewsbury Town squad further before the end of the transfer window.
Striker Nick Chadwick and midfielder Terry Dunfield have both arrived at the Prostar Stadium during January.
And, speaking after last night’s goalless draw at Barnet, boss Simpson revealed he is still keen to bring in more fresh blood.
The window was due to close on January 31 but, because that falls on a Saturday, transfers will now be allowed up until Monday.
“I would like to try and get another one in but I don’t know whether it’s going to happen,” said Simpson.
“But it changes very quickly. Last Saturday the Terry Dunfield one didn’t look as if there was any chance of it happening and then Monday afternoon he is signing for us.
“There are a couple of players I have enquired about and I’m waiting for answers back on them.
“Hopefully we can get them done before the end of the transfer window.
“If it doesn’t happen before then we will have to let the cooling off period go through and then if there is any emergency loans we need to bring in we have got a little bit of room to do that.”
Last night’s goalless draw was Town’s 13th away League Two match without a victory.
But it kept them in sixth place in the League Two table and Simpson was largely happy with his side’s display.
“We went there to try and get three points but I think it has been a good performance, he added.
“There wasn’t a lot wrong with it apart from we didn’t finish the opportunities out of it and get a goal out of it.
“It’s another positive that we have kept a clean sheet and we are still unbeaten in this little run we are on.
“We have had a couple of opportunities but we didn’t work the goalkeeper (Ran Kadoch) enough.
“But away from home, a point is not a bad result as long as we keep doing it properly at home.”
Midfielder Paul Murray came off in the closing stages with cramp but is expected to be fit for Saturday’s visit of Brentford.
