Rubbish recycling easier in borough

BinsLETTER: As a newcomer to Shropshire, I have heard people complain about the amount of rubbish in the shopping centres and on the streets of Telford.

In my experience the problem here is far less than in the new towns of the south east, such as Harlow, Brentford and Stevenage in Essex and Hertfordshire.

And I applaud Telford & Wrekin Council for providing not just one but four community recycling centres. Faced with my 20-year-old clutter collection on leaving Stevenage, Hertfordshire last year, I chose to bring a lot of it with me for a very good reason.

On a weekend in Stevenage, the one recycling centre had a queue of cars hundreds of yards long. The site was undermanned and the few staff were harassed and not very helpful.

Now living in Stirchley, I find the Halesfield centre most convenient. There’s no long queue of cars and the staff are friendly and extremely helpful.

Yes there are many recycling centres that you can go along to but there is still a problem.

It seems that not everyone has a recycling tub and so they pop things into bags and out on the pavement for colection, fine. However in the current weather things get blown about and strewn all over the place and the recycling company do not pick these up as it is classed as rubbish even if they drop it themselves which I have witnessed. In turn this makes the place look untidy so you cannot win either way.
