Plans for store are outlined

Plans for a supermarket in the centre of Oswestry have been outlined to traders.
Bosses from Oswestry-based J Ross Developments gave a presentation on their plans for the town’s Central Car Park to members of the town’s Chamber of Commerce yesterday.
The developer said: “This was one of several such meetings J Ross Developments will be undertaking over the coming weeks.”
The proposal is believed to include a food store, retail units and a cinema or theatre on the site of the car park, which is owned by Oswestry Town Council.
The proposal would rival three other bids to build a supermarket in Oswestry.
Developer Liberty Mercian wants to build on Oswestry’s livestock market, timber firm Richard Burbidge wants to build a store in Whittington Road and JT Hughes and Guttercrest plan to build a supermarket in Victoria Road.
Councillor Heather Bickerton was not present at the meeting but said: “The biggest issue is that everyone, including Oswestry Borough Council, knows that site is not available for development.
“And I would suggest the length of time it would take to carry out the redevelopment would finish off the town completely.”
However, Yossi Gliksman, chamber chairman, said the Central Car Park development was the “most appropriate.” He said “It will bring shoppers back into Oswestry.”

So are the Chamber of Commerce all behind the potential closure of the town centre and the loss of hundreds of car parking spaces to up to 2 years ? The crunch is biting now – if the planners let this go ahead people will avoid Oswestry like the plague – and never come back.
This would kill the centre of the town stone dead

So we will have to pay to shop for food – yet again, thats if there is enough car parking left! Looks to me like its a foregone conclusion, if thats what the chamber of commerce want, then that is what we will get.

Looks like mr Oswestrian not been to wrexham and seen the state of the town centre, now they built the extra retail park.
Then he could look at it the other way, if the town council get their way and build the out of town development,he would need not worry about the loss of hundreds of car parking spaces. There will be plenty free places to park where he likes on the central car park as most will be shopping out of town. from what I have heard, while the development took place upto 2 yrs, there are going to be alternative parking arrangements, or the other aternative is a slow death of the traders of oswestry until its a ghost town like wrexham. I know what i would like to see……

The 1950′s and 1960′s developements ruined Shrewsbury. Now it looks as if the children of those idiot planners have taken over Oswestry.
Send them touring Italy and France to make them realise how to preserve old towns. They do not allow Supermarkets in their lovely old towns.
