Chambers: Victory was all
Wednesday 28th January 2009, 2:00PM GMT.
Larry Chambers hailed AFC Telford United’s return to winning ways in the Blue Square North – but admitted they were still way short of their best.
The Bucks won 3-1 at Solihull Moors last night, Gavin Cowan firing them in front after hosts’ defender Liam Daly had been sent off for a foul on Lee Vaughan.
Danny Carey-Bertram and Liam Blakeman were also on target to secure Telford’s first league win of 2009.
“We needed that and last night was all about the result rather than the performance,” said assistant manager Chambers.
“After the run of results we’ve been on in the league it was massively important we got the three points.
“It wasn’t a great performance but the main thing was that we got the win and we said beforehand that we didn’t care how.
“We were very anxious for the first 10 or 15 minutes and made a couple of unforced errors but fortunately they didn’t capitalise.
“Once we got that out of the way we settled down and played some decent stuff.
“I would have liked, once we got 2-0 up, to see us use it as an exercise to get the ball down, use it and be a bit more clinical in front of goal – but hopefully it will give the lads a bit of confidence.”
Chambers was particularly pleased to see midfielder Blakeman finally register his first goal for the club and hopes he can now use that as a launchpad.
“Liam’s been in a lot of good positions this season and he’s been a little bit unfortunate, but let’s hope he can go on a bit of a run and score a few goals now,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Bucks look set to abandon plans to appeal over James Meredith’s dismissal in the 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood.
The video footage is in conclusive and he will now be banned for the trip to league leaders Tamworth on Saturday, February 7.
