Free theatre scheme for young adults
Tuesday 27th January 2009, 9:00AM GMT.
Thousands of young people in Shropshire will now be able to attend theatrical productions at Oakengates for free from February 2009, as part of a government-funded nationwide scheme.
Oakengates Theatre is one of 99 venues across the country selected to take part in the two year project – allowing almost 3,500 free tickets to be on offer to young people in the borough across a range of shows.
The project goes live on February 16 with a week of special activities at all participating venues, including theatre-based workshops, a young people’s art exhibition, and special performances.
This new initiative specifically targets young adults and their families to give non-traditional theatre goers the means to experience and enjoy a live theatre performance free of charge.
If successful, organisers hope the initiative could be extended to other art forms.
