Child rape man’s appeal refused

A Shropshire man who raped a six year old girl, leaving her with lifelong psychological damage, has failed to persuade top judges that his 13 year jail sentence was too long.

Simon Bowers, 38, of Boulton Grange, Telford, was convicted of rape and indecency with a child on April 11 last year at Shrewsbury Crown Court. At Stafford Crown Court on June 30 he was sentenced to 13 years behind bars.

Today he asked Mr Justice Plender, sitting with Lord Justice Keene and Mr Justice Butterfield, at London’s Criminal Appeal Court to reduce the length of his term.

But Mr Justice Plender dismissed his appeal.
