A mechanic killed in an accident at Oswestry’s bus depot died from crush injuries police said today.

Father-of-one Phil Formstone, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was discovered on Sunday afternoon trapped under a bus at the Arriva depot, Salop Road. 

Mr Formstone, of Gresford, near Wrexham, was found by a colleague apparently dead beneath the vehicle. 

A post mortem examination carried out yesterday showed Mr Formstone died from crush injuries.

Police are investigating the incident in conjunction with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

They are keen to hear from anyone who might have been walking past or was in the area of the bus depot between about 11.30am and 1.50pm on Sunday.

Officers today appealed for a witness they believe may have walked past thepremises shortly before Mr Formstone was found to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Darren Howells, of Oswestry CID, said the man seemed to glance over towards the Arriva forecourt as he walked past at about 1.20pm on Sunday.

Mr Howells said: “At this stage, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident and are now trying to narrow down the time when the victim died, working in conjunction with the HSE.

“We are examining CCTV from the area and it shows this potential witness, who walks along the road in front of the bus depot at about 1.20pm.

“He is carrying a holdall and seems to glance across towards the forecourt.

It is possible he might have seen the bus and possibly the victim.”
