Wolves resigned to losing Davies

In demand Mark DaviesWolves were today reluctantly preparing to bid farewell to prodigy Mark Davies with Bolton favourites to clinch a deal which could be worth around £2m.

The 20-year-old midfielder, whose contract expires this summer, slapped in a transfer request despite Wolves’ offer of a new deal.

Bids of £650,000 from Bolton and £300,000 from Leicester has reportedly been made for the player who is currently on loan at the Walkers Stadium.

There is other Barclays Premier League interest as well, although it is not from Wigan as some reports have claimed.

Davies was recalled from Leicester on Friday and missed their 4-1 win over Huddersfield on Saturday.

Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey said: “We’re in discussion with two clubs over his signature and regrettably it appears we will see Mark in the next couple of days.

“We’ve had him at the club for over 10 years and we always recognised he was an exceptional talent, and to say we’re disappointed by his transfer request is an understatement.

“We’ve offered him a really good three and a half year contract on really good money, but he’s said he wants to leave, come what may.”

“He’s been injured on and off for over two years and we sent him on loan to a really good club to get matchday experience which he needs in order for him to come back and compete for a place in our team.

“We’ve had numerous meetings with him, his dad and his agent – we’ve done so much to persuade him to stay, but he’s decided he wants to leave.”

We can sell a player pretty quickly, but it seems to take an age to buy one!The issue with Davies is he should have been put on a long term contract last summer, the same time Neil Collins got his 4 year deal. For years we were told he was the star of our youth team. What kind of message does this give to the other kids in the youth team?
