Ruling due on porn case vicar
Monday 26th January 2009, 12:59PM GMT.
The future career of a Powys vicar who admitted possessing more than 56,000 indecent images of children will be determined by church officials this week.
The Church in Wales will hold a tribunal to decide whether or not the Reverend Richard Hart, who also admitted taking and making indecent photographs of children, has a future with the church.
The 59-year-old, formerly of The Vicarage, Beguildy, near Knighton, was jailed for a three-and-a-half years at Cardiff Crown Court in September.
Following his arrest last January, Hart was suspended from all clerical duties. Anna Morrell, Church in Wales spokeswoman, said a tribunal would take place this week.
“I can confirm that the private hearing will take place in Cardiff this week and the result will be released publicly,” she said.
Hart, who will not appear in front of the tribunal, will face the charge of conduct giving just cause for scandal or offence. In the meantime, he remains suspended from all clerical duties.
