More Misery For Bucks
Monday 26th January 2009, 11:44AM GMT.
The Bucks fell further behind Tamworth, Gateshead and Southport in the title race after losing for the third time in only four games and making it three losses in a row in the league, writes blogger Joe Davies.
A solitary goal that came with plenty of controversy was enough to see Fleetwood Town win the game.
The drama occurred on the stroke of half time when James Meredith bought down a Fleetwood striker illegally and was deemed by the referee to be the last man. Out came the red card.
Even worse was to come when Fleetwood scored the winner from the resulting free-kick.
After back-to-back league losses we really didn’t need to go to Fleetwood and lose even more ground on the teams above us.
For some reason our league form has dipped since the start of the year and at the minute is showing no signs of improving no matter how well we play in the cup.
From having players all over the pitch chipping in goals on a regular basis, we now find ourselves struggling to find the net at all. Even when we do score at the moment we seem to be shipping goals in defence.
It seems strange to think that just a month ago we had only suffered one loss in 24 games. Maybe the league has taken a back seat whilst we try to qualify for the final of the Setanta Shield and we are still in the FA Carlsberg Trophy?
We need to rediscover our goal scoring touch again as soon as possible – especially with the games coming up including one against Tamworth.
That game could now be a vital one for us and one which could make or break our season.
Also, the talk about us signing one or two more players perhaps shows that Rob Smith and Larry Chambers feel a bit let down lately by the lads in the squad. Perhaps they feel a few new faces will bring out the best in the players we already have and give us an edge in the promotion race.
