Oswestry bus depot on Salop Road, where Phil Formstone was fatally injured
A mechanic has died after an accident at a Shropshire bus depot.
Father-of-one Phil Formstone suffered serious injuries after getting trapped under a single decker bus yesterday.
He was confirmed dead by paramedics at the Arriva depot in Salop Road, Oswestry, yesterday afternoon.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has been informed and is working with police on an investigation into what happened.
Mr Formstone, 46, lived with his parents Walter and Gwyneth at Gresford near Wrexham. His mother said today the whole family was devastated.
She said: “We are devastated. He was a lovely lad and was football mad. He loved Wrexham and would go to home and away games as much as possible.
“He had a 11-year-old son Adam and he took him to see Wrexham.”
Councillor Gareth Jones, Oswestry mayor, a former colleague of Mr Formstone’s at the depot, said he was deeply upset by his death.
“He was a lovely chap and my heart goes out to his family and his friends and colleagues,” he said.
Maria Hawkaluk, West Mercia Police spokesman, said officers were investigating and were working with staff from the HSE.
Keith Myatt, Arriva communications manager, said: “I can confirm unfortunately one of our mechanics was found injured at the depot at Oswestry and subsequently died, but we are working with police at the moment to ascertain the cause of death and investigations are ongoing.”

I am so saddened by this, Phil was a truly nice guy – my husband used to work at the depot and knew Phil. Our thoughts are with his family.

So shocked to here about Flinty.
We’ve met him on Wales trips and he was always a great guy to share a few beers and stories with on away days.
We cannot begin to put into words how sorry we are, and words are never enough to console people to such a tragic and sudden loss.
Our regards and deepest sympathy to all his family and friends.
From all the travelling Welsh supporters from Bala.
