Holt’s back in business
Monday 26th January 2009, 1:30PM GMT.
Refreshed record signing Grant Holt returns to Shrewsbury Town duty tomorrow night with his sights set on crashing through the 30-goal barrier before the end of the season.
Holt has spent the last three weeks on the sidelines serving a two-game suspension after collecting 10 bookings.
But he is back available for tomorrow night’s trip to Barnet, as Town aim to build on Saturday’s 1-0 home victory over Darlington which took them back into the play-off places.
And Holt, who has already found the net 20 times this term, is hoping to get the nod for the trip to Underhill.
“It has been disappointing to sit two games out but the positive is it has given me the chance to have a bit of a breather and get my back sorted because I have had a few problems wit that in the last couple of months,” said the 27-year-old.
“To get four points from the last two games has been great and hopefully we can kick on now. Hopefully I will get the chance tomorrow night but we will have to see.
“I want to score as many goals as possible – it would be really pleasing if I could get to 30 and get another 10 League goals.
“But it’s all about the team getting the wins and staying in those top places.”
Meanwhile, manager Paul Simpson has hailed his side’s character after Saturday’s victory.
“It wasn’t a good performance by any stretch of the imagination but it was a big win and a big three points,” said the Town boss.
“There were a lot of things that weren’t right but the main thing is that we took three points. We showed fantastic character and we have to thankful we have got the three points.
“I would imagine, because there is so much at stake between now and the end of the season, there will be many games like that.
“If we come away with a 1-0 victory, it won’t do much for my blood pressure and grey hairs but I will be glad to take the points.”
