Wheels come off Hairy Bikers’ challenge
Saturday 24th January 2009, 12:00AM GMT.
TV’s Hairy Bikers failed to cut the mustard when they took on Shropshire’s newest star chef, Will Holland. The celebrity cooks visited Ludlow to film a programme for a forthcoming series of their popular TV show.
However, they failed to get the better of Ludlow’s newly-crowned star chef, Will Holland, in a cook-off featuring a panel of independent judges.
Today Beth Heath, operations director of Ludlow Food Festival, said: “The Hairy Bikers visited the town so that they could film a programme here.
“They spent the day sourcing high quality local produce. They even visited places like the Stiperstones. Then they went to La Becasse, the restaurant in Corve Street, Ludlow, to prepare a meal with the ingredients they’d bought.
“The La Becasse chef, Will Holland, was given the same ingredients and he also had to cook a dinner.”
The day’s events were filmed by crews of cameramen so that it can be shown to an audience of millions later this year.
Mrs Heath added: “The day was great fun. The Hairy Bikers went round the town and looked at a number of places that are of interest to people who enjoy food and drink.”
Mr Holland is the county’s fastest rising star chef. Earlier this week he was awarded a Michelin star. He has also won three AA rosettes for his fine cuisine.
Mrs Heath said of the cook-off: “It was great fun.”
