Officially a cold start to the year
Saturday 24th January 2009, 10:55AM GMT.
Shropshire has experienced one of the coldest Januarys for several years, according to weather experts.
The county has seen temperatures plummet to -11C (12F) and icy conditions are set to continue this week.
John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, said: “It’s been a rather cold month which was unusual because we’ve had such mild Januarys recently. It’s been below average this year.
“It’s still rather cold and very changeable but there’s more rain coming up and it might be preceded by some sleet or snow, but not much,” Mr Warner said.

“More rain is coming in on Tuesday, but we’ve only had about 40mm of rain so far this month.”
Motorists were also warned to continue to allow extra time in the morning to defrost their car windows as overnight frost is expected.
“It’s really rather cold with occasional frosty mornings,” Mr Warner added.
