Woman, 94, is conman victim
Friday 23rd January 2009, 2:48PM GMT.
A conman stole £300 from a 94-year-old Telford pensioner after he talked his way into her home. The woman was targeted at Walton Court in Oakengates shortly after 5.30pm yesterday when a man knocked on her door claiming he knew her.
Police said the victim let him into her home where the man told her he had goods to sell.
The pensioner told him she did not have any money.
But the man asked her to hand over her purse, cash cards and PIN numbers for him to go and get the money for her, which she did.
He never returned and £300 was taken from her account.
The money was withdrawn from the cashpoint at Tesco Express, Haygate Road in Wellington within 30 minutes of the visit.
Chris Ammonds, Telford police spokesman, said: “This is a despicable incident.”
