Brown’s only got eyes for Telford

Andy BrownStriker Andy Brown has given AFC Telford United a boost ahead of tomorrow’s tough trip to Fleetwood Town – insisting he has no intention of leaving the club.Speculation in some quarters has linked the 15-goal marksman with a move to League Two club Dagenham & Redbridge during the January transfer window.

But Brown, 22, who is ruled out of tomorrow’s Blue Square North clash by an Achilles injury, insists he has no intention of quitting Telford – or his teaching degree.

“I’ve heard some talk about Dagenham watching me but there’s been no approach so I’ve not really thought about it,” he said today.

“I can’t say what would happen in the future but, for the time-being, I’m doing a teaching degree (in Bedford) and I’m just as committed to that as I am to Telford.

“I don’t want to go anywhere right now because I’m in the middle of my course and I’m really enjoying my football at Telford.

“My goal tally isn’t bad – my target at the start of the season is always 20, that’s pretty standard for a striker and I’m on course for that.

“With 15 already I should be pushing for 25 or maybe even 30. I’m lucky to play for such a great team who create chances for me.”

Brown’s absence tomorrow means Danny Carey-Bertram and Terry Fearns should continue to lead the line, and they have also been prolific this season – netting 11 and 16 respectively so far.

Boss Rob Smith has no fresh injury worries ahead of the trip to Lancashire, and could also have Lee Vaughan back in his squad, the right-back making good progress after an ankle problem.

Midfielder Phil Trainer and winger Danny Edwards are both back in the ranks, having been cup-tied for the 3-2 win over Kettering after extra-time in the Setanta Shield on Tuesday.

Skipper Stuart Whitehead will hope to keep his place after impressing against the Poppies in his first appearance for two months after injury.
