Plan for town revamp
Thursday 22nd January 2009, 11:21AM GMT.
Plans have been put forward for a major transformation of Llanfyllin. The scheme will see the town’s car park extended, a picnic area developed and a riverside walkway built.
Llanfyllin Town Council says the car park extension would provide much needed spaces for shoppers, while the riverside development, which would include picnic benches and wildlife viewpoints over the River Cain, would provide a vital facility to the community and help transform the town for the future.
Town councillors backed the plans yesterday after receiving a presentation from landscape architect Sue Cooke. A planning application is to be submitted to Powys County Council by the end of this month.
Angela Vause, town council clerk, said today: “This is a major development for Llanfyllin and a very exciting one which received unanimous support from councillors yesterday.
“We are looking to extend the existing car park by 30 spaces.”
She added: “More car parking would help traders in the town on busy days.
“The plans also involves us buying a fairly large chunk of land near the river and developing a picnic area and putting down duckboarding, which would be accessible for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
“There would be picnic tables and viewpoints, so people can sit and chat and watch the wildlife.”
Mrs Vause said the total cost of the project was still unclear.
