Look to Germany for advice
Thursday 22nd January 2009, 9:30AM GMT.
LETTER: Last Saturday night my wife and I watched a really funny episode of Dad’s Army. We also saw a documentary about the Home Guard.
We seem to be obsessed about World War Two and our victory over the Nazis. The defeat of Germany has become almost a media industry.
In the present recession Germany is backing its industries and preventing unemployment of a skilled workforce.
All we are doing in Britain is bailing out our banks – who caused most of this mess in the first place.
Ought we to follow the German way during these times? The Germans lost the war, will they win the peace?

Th Germans won the economy war 60 years ago. Britain received twice the amount of aid that Germany had under the Marshall plan after the war. Britain wasted the aid on creating the NHS and Nationalising the Railways, Coal mines, Steel industry,Electricity, etc. Meanwhile Germany rebuilt its industry with American aid wisely spent.

With American aid, Germany was able to reconstruct virtually from scratch and their national psyche is still much more responsible and disciplined than in the UK. Hence, they entered a boom era after the war and they’re financial industry behaved more responsibly and was more tightly regulated in any case. Their Achilles heel and that of France too, will be their pensions deficit in the years ahead. The UK will face the same problem, but on a significantly less alarming scale. I think the UK will learn a hard lesson and be on the ropes for a while, but when we bounce back we’ll leave the other big EU players standing. I also think that just when we should be enjoying the benefits of dragging ourselves out of austerity, our cash will be siphoned off by the EU to help our “partners” with their pensions crises – and whatever Labour or Conservative government holds Westminster at that time will tamely allow it to happen.

Keith states that “Britain received twice the amount of aid that Germany had under the Marshall plan after the war.” He omits to mention that Britain had to pay it all back after the war. The United States also received invaluable British research into radar and atomic energy.

I have just had a conspiracy attack.
9/11 was an attack on World Trade, which was governed by America and their Multi-Nationals.
The culprits, Al-Qaeda, are still around causing monetary mayhem for America. (Iraq-
Afghanistan.) China also was beginning to acquire more $dollars than the USA!
The extreme wealthy Conservatives of America (The Bush Dynasty and the rest of the
1% gang of richest Americans.) saw this trouble approaching. No time to stop it,
so they whip the carpet from under Wall Street, stash the money away, outa sight.
(IT has NOT vanished except to us ordinary mortals). A child of the Neo-Cons,
maybe the Bush’s child, will leap onto the rubble that is left and SAVE the old World Order.
Mr George Bush will have the last laugh!
And anybody who watches Dad’s Army will be laughing for ever.
PS: Germany has very serious unemployment at the moment. Greater than UK, and not half the sense of humour.
