Thousands hit by power cut
Wednesday 21st January 2009, 11:50AM GMT.
Thousands of homes and businesses were left without power across Telford after a high voltage cable fault.
Central Networks said 4,574 customers in the town were affected by the loss of power yesterday, shortly after 3pm.
People also reported intermittent power cuts lasting just a couple of seconds during the day.
Engineers were sent out to investigate the cause of the problem and were back out today repairing an underground cable fault in the Lawley area.
Within an hour of first being alerted they had managed to restore power to all but 546 properties in the Lawley Village, Little Wenlock, Wellington, Church Lane and New Works areas.
By 6pm all properties had power back again.
A Central Networks spokeswoman said: “It looks like a high voltage fault in the area. It looks like to be an underground cable fault. Most people were back on within the hour.”
- Production of the Last edition of the Shropshire Star was also affected by the power cut. We would like to thank our delivery teams and agents for getting the paper to our readers in difficult circumstances.

perhaps this is the same reason I’ve not had a Telford Journal in over 12 months.
