Plans lodged for town incinerator

Multi-million pound plans for a new incinerator on the outskirts of Shrewsbury have been lodged with planning chiefs.
Veolia Environmental Services has submitted the application for the energy-from-waste facility it wants to build at Battlefield to Shropshire County Council.
The waste firm unveiled its plans to the public last week at several exhibitions in the town, and people will be able to view the planning application soon.
The controversial facility is expected to generate enough power to supply electricity to 10,000 homes and help reduce the amount of waste going to landfill to only five per cent if plans for the scheme are approved.
Today Simon Alton, a spokesman for the county council, said: “The planning application has just been received and is currently being registered, checked and validated. We hope it will be available to be viewed by the public next week.”
