Date set for biomass inquiry

Wednesday 21st January 2009, 2:30PM GMT.

BiomassA public inquiry into a proposal to build a £5 million biomass power plant in south Shropshire will go ahead on March 4, protesters have confirmed.

Members of The Bishop’s Castle Group, who are opposed to plans for the biomass power plant close to the town, said they were delighted that the date had been set.

They are pleased the inquiry will be held in Bishop’s Castle and not Ludlow, as suggested by South Shropshire District Council.

Karen Bavastock, chairman of The Bishop’s Castle Group, said: “The inquiry will open at 10am on March 4 in the Fletcher Room at the community college in Bishop’s Castle.

“It is scheduled to last for three days, and we hope the planning inspector will grant an evening session, to allow people to attend who cannot give statements during the day.

“Our group has also been granted ‘rule six’ status which means that we are officially recognised as a party to the hearing and can thus submit evidence and cross examine the developers on their assertions regarding their proposal.

“We are currently gathering our list of speakers and evidence ready for the inquiry.”

How ever long is this going on for?
has ANYONE really done their sums over this one, or consulted with the one at Eccleshall which seems to have been a lot less than a success?

The public inquiry starts on the 3rd March 2009, not the 4th. The points Brian raise are good ones and they have been asked of the people behind the project but the Bishop’s Castle Group and other Groups have been refused a visit to look at the Eccleshall plant and the developers won’t discuss anything monetary as it is commercially sensitive.
