Bucks reach Setanta Final
Wednesday 21st January 2009, 10:01AM GMT.
The Bucks continued their success in the Setanta Shield by beating Blue Square Premier side Kettering to book their place in the Northern Section Final, writes AFC Telford blogger Joe Davies.
Having already beaten Cambridge and Burton in the run, Kettering became the third side from the Blue Square Premier to suffer defeat at the hand of the Bucks.
The game lasted longer than most fans and the management teams would have liked, but it was the Bucks who came out on top, scoring the winner in the first half of injury time.
We will now play either Southport or Barrow in the final.
It has been a good season so far in terms of the cup for the Bucks and will hopefully continue with us winning our area final of the Setanta Shield and going further in the FA Carlsberg Trophy in which we have Kettering again.
Last night’s game was a useful exercise for us after our defeat on Saturday and it gets us back to winning ways at home.
It also gave Rob Smith and Larry Chambers a chance to give a few of the lads a game and to get some much needed match fitness in.
Stuart Whitehead got to play his first game for a while and Matty Lewis got some more minutes under his belt. The fact we have got these players back now going into the second half of the season is like having two new signings.
Lewis may be able to get some more playing time in the next couple of weeks as top scorer Andy Brown has been ruled out with an Achilles problem he’s been playing through for a few weeks now.
We now have six away games in a row scheduled, although one is in the FA Trophy, starting with a trip to Fleetwood Town on Saturday.
We need to follow up this impressive performance with a league win.
