Home service as post office to close

Tuesday 20th January 2009, 3:00PM GMT.

PostA home outreach service will be introduced in a south Shropshire village, Post Office bosses said today. The new service will replace Munslow Post Office, housed at Aston Munslow Garage.

It follows confirmation last July that the existing branch would close under Post Office Ltd’s area plan for Shropshire and Staffordshire.

The home outreach service will allow people in the community, who register for the service, to order Post Office products and have them delivered to their home or to a local drop in centre.

Michael Lewis, who currently runs the post office at Aston Munslow Garage, said: “It is a terrible shame for the community that our post office is shutting. It is going to make it really difficult for everyone.”

Mark Partington, network development manager for Shropshire and Staffordshire, said: “The home service in Munslow offers a convenient way for customers to continue to access Post Office services locally.

“We’ve had to make changes in order to put the network on a more stable footing for the future and achieve this in a way which best meets the demands and concerns of its customers.”

But Buster Evans, chairman of Munslow Parish Council, said he felt the Post Office had “moved the goalposts”.

He added: “As far as we were aware, we were outside their circle of responsibility. People are not going to do it. They will have to try and find their way to the nearest post office which means a round trip of 12 miles.”

This beggers belief, when the government are putting billions of pounds into Banks, and are closing Post offices.
I cannot see how an outreach service can be any improvement on the Post office at Aston Munslow Garage, which is convenient for local people.

DO THOSE THAT MAKE THESE STUPID DECISSIONS LIVE IN THE VILLAGES THAT ARE BEING AFFECTED. NO THEY DONT. THEY LIVE IN TOWNS/CITIES SO THEY DONT HAVE A CLUE ABOUT LIVING IN THE COUNTRY. PUBLIC TRANSPORT IS GRINDING TO A HALT FOR PEOPLE TO GET FROM VILLAGE TO TOWN. ALSO HOW SAFE IS IT GOING TO BE TO TRANSPORT MONEY ABOUT ON THE OUTREACH SCHEME!!!!!!!!!!
