Town’s bridge is reopened
Monday 19th January 2009, 3:00PM GMT.
Ludlow’s new £1million Burway Bridge was finally opened today, ending 18 months of roadworks.
Sol and Doreen Pearce, whose home was destroyed when the previous bridge was swept away in severe floods in June 2007, were guests of honour at the ceremony.
The couple, who lived at 51A Corve Street, cut the ribbon watched by more than 40 members of the public, councillors, construction workers and Ludlow MP Philip Dunne.

Mr and Mrs Pearce said they had put the trauma behind them and were pleased to see the bridge open again.
Mrs Pearce said: “The bridge is really very nice, they’ve done a good job of it. I think we’ve managed to put the experience behind us now. We still remember living here because we lived here for so long. I was born in the same yard and I’m 71 now. We lived there for 41 years and that was the first time we were ever flooded.”
The couple, who now live in Whitbatch Close, said they were pleased to be asked to reopen the bridge.
Guest speakers at the ceremony included county councillors John Everall Peter Corston.
Mr Dunne said: “It’s a very good day for Ludlow. I think the county council has done a terrific job. It was a very difficult engineering job and they have made it longer and wider which should ensure safe access into Ludlow for pedestrians and motorists for generations to come.”

What a shame it doesnt look as good as the original bridge. What happened to the fancy stone work from the old bridge. One rule for us and one rule for them.
