Line proud of Drayton heroes
Monday 19th January 2009, 5:00PM GMT.
The celebrations went on long into the night after Market Drayton Town secured their place in the last 16 of the FA Vase with an excellent 2-1 victory against VTFC.
Tom Ward was the hero for Drayton with the winning strike 11 minutes from time after their Southampton-based opponents had cancelled out Duncan Horler’s early opener.
“We are absolutely elated,” said Drayton boss Simon Line. “We’ve shown again that we’ve got real fighters here.
“It was biggest day ever for this club without a doubt.
“We’ve hit the crossbar, we’ve hit the post, their keeper has made a couple of great saves and we’ve missed an open goal at the end to really seal it, so we deserved to go through because we’ve shown unbelievable fight and spirit.
“VT are a very good side. You look at their record coming into this and they were averaging five or six goals a game.
“I don’t think (Andrew) Pryce has had a save to make in the second half although they have put us under some pressure, but we’ve been like real Trojans out there.
“Everything about the day was fantastic. The fans got behind us and gave the players a rapturous applaud at the end.
l Drayton will travel to Biggleswade Town in the fifth round.
Bedfordshire-based Biggleswade are currently seventh in the Molten Spartan South Midlands League. The tie takes place on February 7.
