Woman jailed for trying to rob OAP

Saturday 17th January 2009, 10:05AM GMT.

A 36-year-old Shrewsbury woman who tried to rob an epileptic senior citizen of his pension money close to a supermarket car park has been jailed for two years.

Judge Robin Onions said Louise Armitage, of The Ridings, Gains Park, was leading a “desperate” life fuelled by excess drink.

The court heard her attempt to rob Leslie Milman on June 16 last year near the Netto car park, Abbey Foregate, had left him scared to go out and caused him to suffer from more fits and high blood pressure.

She had previously admitted the charge and the robbery of 17 packets of hair extensions worth £305.83 from Hayley Corfield, a beauty shop assistant in Shrewsbury, on June 29, be-fore yesterday’s sentencing.

At Shrewsbury Crown Court Judge Onions said Armitage’s life had been “chaotic” over the past few years and said she had associations with rough sleepers.

He handed Armitage a 12-month prison sentence for the attempted robbery of Mr Milman and a consecutive 12 months for the robbery of Hayley Corfield.

Mr Timothy Harrington, for Armitage, said she had already spent 176 days on remand in prison in relation to the offences. He said she had expressed a “real determination” to change her life.
