Jilted man may face prison term

Saturday 17th January 2009, 11:20AM GMT.

A 36-year-old Market Drayton man has been warned he could face custody after admitting harassing his ex-partner by sending her text messages with threats of violence and damage.

Raymond Morgan, of Smithfield Road, yesterday admitted putting his former partner in fear of violence by harassment between March 31 and October 14 last year when he appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court.

Mr Stephen Bacon, prosecuting, said phone messages sent by Morgan included threats to damage her parent’s house and to use violence against her and her partner.

Mr Mike Sherwood-Smith, for Morgan, said his client had suffered “significant” alcohol problems.

Judge Robin Onions adjourned the case until February 16 for a pre-sentence report but warned Morgan that all sentencing options remained open.

Morgan was remanded in custody.
