Injured motorist trapped in his car
Saturday 17th January 2009, 11:05AM GMT.
A motorist was left seriously hurt when his car crashed onto its side near Shifnal.
Emergency services were called to Haughton Lane, close to the M54 motorway, yesterday, shortly before 10.30pm.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews found one man inside the car, which had turned onto its side.
Fire crews had to stabilise the vehicle, so that he could be carefully lifted out.
Inspector Nigel Humphries, of West Mercia Police, said the man was trapped in the vehicle, but conscious and breathing.
He was sedated and taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford for further assessment.
Mr Humphries said police closed the road but it was re-opened within about 90 minutes.
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman Suzie Fothergill said an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle were sent to the scene, and one man was taken to hospital.
She said today: “We had a call just before 10.30pm.
“When we got to the scene we found it was a single car road traffic collision.
“The car was actually on its side and one occupant was in the vehicle.
“It was a man believed to be in his 20s.
“The crew got him out of the vehicle on a spinal board and then they treated him at the scene for a head injury.
“They took him to the PRH for further assessment and treatment.”
