County restaurant is biting back

An award-winning Shropshire restaurant is hoping to bite back with a credit-munching menu.
The Hundred House Inn, at Norton, between Telford and Bridgnorth, is one of the county’s highest-rated restaurants and has two AA rosettes.
It has launched a special menu where people can feast on two courses of gourmet grub for a tenner.
Stuart Phillips, Hundred House chef, said local produce featured heavily on the new “two dine for £10 each” menu.
He said: “The menu includes our ‘Shropshire Sharing Platter’, which includes local hot and cold meats, homemade soup, local cheeses, handcut parsnip crisps and other daily selections.”
Other selections include venison terrine, pate, cock-a-leekie soup, grilled Wenlock black pudding with caramelised apple, while mains included braised loin of pork stuffed with fennel and olives; steak and kidney pie served with mash potato and vegetables; and pheasant braised in a beer and fruit sauce with homemade sausage.
Mr Phillips said: “We hope this idea will capture the imagination of diners looking for a great bargain.
“The food is of the highest quality, with plenty of fresh, local produce and herbs from our garden.
“The prices are unbeatable, particularly for this standard of food,” he added.
The venue was awarded Shropshire Inn of the Year Award 2005. It has won a number of other awards, including a Cesars – an Oscar of the hotel world – in the “utterly enjoyable mild eccentricity” category.
The Hundred House Hotel is also believed to be the only hotel in Shropshire to have received two rosettes for food in the AA Restaurant Guide for 12 years running.
