Tigers eye double Jets joy

Back-to-back games against Slough is the GM Telford Tigers schedule this weekend – the home game being on Sunday (5.30pm).

And Tigers’ player-coach Claude Dumas knows that the Jets are one of the trickiest opponents in the English Premier League.

The Shropshire club travel to Berkshire tomorrow, before welcoming Slough on Sunday for the third and last time this season.

And Dumas stressed: “Slough are the most opportunistic team in the league – if you give them any kind of chance they will take it.

“They have some very talented players who are doing the job for them this year and they know how to win games.

“Slough don’t miss many good opportunities, that is why they are where they are in the league.

“When they lose a game they show a lot of character and bounce straight back. They lost to Milton Keynes last week, so I would not be surprised that they are looking to come back strong this weekend.

“But we have had four great games against them this year. We’ve won only one of those, but we were close in two more.

“We know it will be a hard weekend. We have to defend well and take the space and time off their good players in our zone.

“We proved last week that we can beat the best in the league, but we will take it game by game.

“We travel to Slough first and we played okay there the last times we visited, so maybe tomorrow will be third time lucky for us.”

Last week’s stunning 8-3 victory over title favourites Peterborough  gave the Tigers the confidence-boost they needed after late losses in their previous two home games.

Although the side wasn’t able to score in a 1-0 loss at Sheffield on Sunday, Dumas was happy with the two performances overall.

“Peterborough was a big win for us and we played well defensively throughout the game,” the French-Canadian veteran added.

“In Sheffield we were the creative, offensive team, but we just could not get the goal we needed.

“I hope we can pick up more points this weekend. I would be happy with two points, but really we have to aim for four points every time.”
