These are, the notice helpfully tells us, “The Diddicoys at Ambridge”, and they were at a past Market Drayton carnival, although we haven’t got the year.
This photo has recently been on display at the Beacon Community Centre in the town.
Most readers will probably know that Ambridge is the setting for the long-running radio series The Archers, but we suspect that far fewer will know what a diddicoy is. It is a slang term for gipsy.
