Region to be hit by wind and snow
Friday 16th January 2009, 3:15PM GMT.
People across Shropshire were today warned to brace themselves for high winds and snow.
Winds are expected to pick up tomorrow night with gusts of up to 50mph across the county.
And wintry showers are expected towards the end of the weekend with snow lying on higher ground.
John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, said today he could easily see gales sweeping across the region tomorrow night.

“It is going to be particularly bad in the north and west of Scotland with gusts of up to 100mph.
“Here I am expecting up to 50mph gusts on Saturday evening and once that is out of the way we are into a cold, wintry air stream coming from the bitter weather in the United States.
“I think it will be cold enough for wintry showers on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with snow lying over the hills, including The Wrekin, and hail and sleet at lower levels,” he added.
Mr Warner said temperatures would range from -1C (30F) to 4C (39F).
“It’s the Atlantic jet stream bringing lots of depressions across the Atlantic.”
Mr Warner said the US was cold at the moment, but said: “Because the Atlantic is fairly warm we don’t feel the full effects, but it’s going to feel quite cold over Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.”
Mr Warner said another belt of rain was moving across later today.
Another one is expected tomorrow before the wind picks up.
The windy weather is a contrast to recent weeks when the region was caught up in the grip of icy temperatures and frosty conditions .

I’ll get my trunks ready for an afternoon of sun worship. Thanks, Mr Warner.

I do wonder where the Shropshire Star acquires these experts? They have John Warner their weatherman and Phil Hoyle their UFO expert both obviously experts(!?) in their respective fields.

Personally I shalln’t be waxing down my skis.

I suppose the council will shut all the schools as a precaution, their heating is bound to fail and no doubt local radio stations will be manning snowdesks just in case we get a dusting.
The rail system will almost certainly grind to a halt and motorists will abandon their cars in North Yorkshire and Scotland.
