Police find runaway youngster
Thursday 15th January 2009, 11:16AM GMT.
A 12-year-old girl who left her north Shropshire home after an argument has been found safe and well in Telford, police said today.
Aimee Parkes was found in the Madeley area of the town by police yesterday evening – exactly one week after she left her home in Prees Green, near Whitchurch.
Members of the public came forward with possible sightings of the youngster after seeing her photograph and a police appeal in the Shropshire Star after she was reported missing.
Police believed she had travelled to Telford to be with friends or family.
Telford police spokeswoman Denise Wakefield said: “Aimee was found safe and well at 8.45pm yesterday by police in the Madeley area.
“She has been returned home to her family in north Shropshire.”
Launching the appeal for the youngster, police said Aimee had been involved in an argument at home before she went missing.
Police said she took only a small amount of cash with her and officers feared this would have run out in the first few days of her going missing.
Officers said Aimee’s age and vulnerability caused them great concern.
Her family issued a description of the youngster and the clothes she was last wearing in the hope someone would see her.
