Bosses at a collectable envelope company are to launch a pair of limited edition covers celebrating Charles Darwin and his “ground-breaking” work.

First day cover producers Buckingham Covers are working officially with the HMS Beagle Project to mark Darwin’s Bicentenary and the 150th Anniversary of the publication of “The Origin of Species.”

They are producing a pair of decorative covers featuring the Darwin stamps issued by Royal Mail on February 12, 2009.

Jules Parsons, of the company, said: “There can be no denying that Charles Darwin changed the way we look at Nature and ourselves.

“All current thinking on topics ranging from genetic research to wildlife conservation will have been influenced in some way by his theories.

“Whether you agree with him or not, there’s no denying that his work is right up there with Newton and Einstein.

“Our sales director Ellie Hopkins actually had her interest sparked in Darwin when she heard about The HMS Beagle Project, which plans to build a working replica of the very ship Darwin sailed on,” added Jules.

“It seems that the ship remained close to Darwin’s heart long after his travels as he apparently had his study made to resemble the cabin he had.”

The commemorative covers are available unsigned or signed by either Sir Robin Knox Johnson, patron of The Beagle Project, or round the world yachtswoman Dame Ellen McArthur.
